Because I wasn't able to filter it myself.

The problem is that its not easy to install software on Linux. You have to know the system and how to deal with issues that come up during installation. That's the help I need.

If I may be so bold as to interpret the question. I think he was asking why do you have the device then?

If it's causing you issues - get rid of it. Yes, it may be inconvenient. Yes, there may be a cost. But if you can't filter, and having it around is causing you to fall, why don't you just get rid of it and replace it with a filterable device?

Is that a lifetime solution? Of course not. Will it help you significantly? Probably. So why not do it.

The reason I kept it was because I kept hoping that I would manage to filter it.
But you're 100% right, and this morning I erased Linux from my computer, and am sticking to Windows.

Re: Bein hazmanim letter from Yeshivas 30 Aug 2024 19:04 #420445

It's not easy.
The main thing I liked about Linux that it's a lot more efficient and therefore my battery lasts three times longer.
Windows is a 1990s gas guzzler, while Linux is is a 2024 hybrid with 40mpg.
The charging port on my computer is broken. Sometimes it charges, sometimes it doesn't. Even when it does, it usually charges slowly.
When I used Linux, it was battery efficient enough that even with such shvache charging, it would get charged.
Now on Windows, most of the time I have an almost dead battery, and am frantically jiggling the charging wire around, trying to get it to charge.

Shalom Brother,
L'maskana, you need a filter that works. If your charger or computer needs to be replaced, that's a small price to pay for kedusha.

I agree, and thats why i took care of it.
Just about anything in the world is a small price to pay for kedusha, but that doesn't make it easy.

vey often that  can be easily swapped out for  new charging port. If youre not handy there are people that can do it for about $75.

Thanks.
Local computer repair told me $130.
Someone in camp told me he knows just starting out in computer repair who would probably do it for $30, but I forgot who it was.
You know anyone specific who can fix it for $75 or cheaper?

If you can identify the part that needs replacement, you or a semi geshikt fellow might be able to do it yourselves. Some models will have simpler component disassembly and reassembly than others. Someone with the right kind of filter might be able to unblock an instructional video for step-by-step guidance for your particular device.

I paid for an overpriced warranty that apparently covers everything besides the charging port, and I don't want to void it.
I don't either want to screw up my computer by mistake.

I hear you.
Best check the warranty fine print and make sure a tech doesn't void it either.
Often you need to get the item repaired by the manufacturer in order to keep the warranty.

Good morning. I was once a bochur suffering with this issue (now I'm a married man suffering with it). I truly believed I was the only one doing this. Which other person in his right mind would do this, is what I thought. I was too ashamed to approach anyone.

Looking back, and seeing now how this problem is so much greater and wide spread, if I had my way, I would push for every single Yeshiva to have a Mashgiach that proactively deals with this. Someone who will build a trustful relationship with each bochur. Obviously he discuss all other trivial problems as well. (If not no one would come to him, because everyone would know why you are going to him) But at the same time his job should be to build trust with every single bochur, amd when the time is ripe, ask the bochur straight up if he suffers with this. And, when a bochur gives a quick "no" understand that he really wants to say yes but is ashamed. Work with him amd help him. This would save so many for years of pain and hopelessness!!!
