The Ohr hachaim hakadosh wrote that a man can hold himself back from doing any aveirah, except this one, however the bechira is to stay away from the aveirah as far as possible, as everyone knows that it is impossible to get up in middle of watching xxx and stop watching it or to be in middle or really close to acting out and make a short stop, but we do have a bechira not to get close to it.

As far as people feeling despair caused by saying it is a test, a person should not be depressed cause he is failing tests, it is a given that a man will fall, every man,
(כי אדם אין צדיק בארץ, אשר יעשה טוב ולא יחטא (קוהלת פרק ז

Evidence to that is the fact that we have the mitzva of teshuva, Hashem gave us the mitzva of teshuva because he knew that we would sin, therefore a person should never fell despair that he did not or will not fall, however of course it is imperative that he does whatever it takes.

Slogans and Sayings

Relapses and falling are inevitable, the challenge is getting up.

Tzaddikim are the not the ones that don't fall, they are the ones that fall constantly and get up constantly.

I'm not sure he meant every aveirah at every moment of his life, or if he meant, if a person works on himself, he can get to that madreiga. I'm not sure how many of us, given the "choice" to bow to avodah zarah or die, would choose to die. I'm not sure that it is even within our bechirah. Keep Shabbos or loose our job etc. There are certainly things beyond our bechirah.

Having Kavanah for every single word of every single shmoneh esrei...

Never yell at our children (when not proper, which is almost always).

I don't think someone just becoming frum has bechirah to do a lot of things right away. Not only that. If he does too much, too fast, he is in danger of losing it all.

The list of examples goes on, but I think you get my drift.

Gibbor is sayin' important stuff, especially due to the fact that some of our addiction is self-inflicted, and because it can be a disease as well.
