Dear chevre,

I am a frum social worker working to put together a prevention program for yeshiva bochrim to help protect them from falling into the nightmare of pornography addiction. Does anyone have any ideas, thoughts, tips?  What do you wish someone had told YOU back then?

Thanks,

Raffi

P.S. If you think there is a better forum to post this on than the intro forum, please let me know that too.

Do you have a pornography habit? It doesn't really have anything to do with your request, but since you are here, I figured I'd just come out and ask. Im lo achshov eimosai?

Can't download. Try again? I'm interested to see it.  When you say "already begun the work," do you mean just compiling the info, or actually going out to present it?

I do not have a pornography addiction. I work in child sexual abuse (and domestic violence), and the fields are somewhat related.

If someone would only help me by telling me how sick I will be, but I don't think I would listen at that time.
Keep coming back, it works if you work it, so work it, you're worth it.

Well, can you think back to that frame of mind and think of anything someone COULD have said to you that you would have listened to?

Only partially based on my personal experience...

The first thing and possibly the most important thing is that a person needs to be self confident, satisfied and happy with their family and social environment. It's largely when people don't feel good about themselves and don't have healthy relationships that they turn to illicit pleasures.

You probably can explain to people that this will not bring them the happiness they seek and ultimately will make them less happy and satisfied, but its going to be a much harder sell if the alternate route to happiness is not within their sight.
I am not big enough to not do something I WANT to do because I know it is wrong, but I've been around long enough not to want to do many things, even though they are really enticing at the first glance.

I think the biggest thing may be to somehow make bochurim understand that it is normal to have a problem and not to be embarrased to speak to someone about it.  Early intervention is key.  How to achieve that - hey you're the social worker .
