Lately, I feel like our Cruise Ship is becoming more like an "Icebreaker." You know, the ones you've seen on National Geographic that navigate their way thru the icy oceans near the North Pole. With tremendous strength and courage, these brave sailors face freezing cold conditions and forge a path straight thru what seems to be inpenetratable fields of ice. Where once use to be clear blue water is now white solid layers of ice. Thanks to the strength of their massive ship with a leading edge of thick steel and a fearless crew, they plow ahead where other ships and weaker sailors would simply be stuck till the seasons change. As your Captain, I must acknowledge the courage and strength I have witnessed with our crew and our ship as we plow ahead into unknown and icy territories that few are brave enough to face. Yes, each and everyone of you are making this journey possible; without you - we could not reach our destination! Thank you for demonstrating such determination. You make me so proud. As you know, we are headed face first into the towering icy walls of the glacier we call "Admitting Powerlessness." We all know that we have to break thru to reach our destination. As we read Jim's Story, we learned that "once a sexaholic, always a sexaholic." And how powerful this condition is! In Jim's Story, we witnessed the power of one simply word - "Suddenly." "Suddenly" is the TRAP DOOR that opens beneath us and in an instant, we fall into our addiction. We could be just minding our business or we think we have pure intentions. And then all of a SUDDEN, we are hopelessly, and powerlessly drawn into our addiction. How long is it going to take us to really appreciate in the most sincere and humbling way that we are powerless? When are we going to wake up and realize that the vain attempts to take control, to sit in G-d's thrown, to run the world is getting us nowhere. Do we really have to win every argument and have the last word, do we have to drive in the the fastest lane to work, do we have to show our children every time they make a little mistake, do we have to make the most money, be the most beautiful, or have the loudest voice? As we discussed on the Call, you have HOMEWORK for the weekend. Please write down what you want to have written on your tombstone or have said in your eulogy. What do you want to be remembered for? What will be your legacy? And have a Good Shabbos, Looking FORWARD, Duvid Chaim PS - You can't use any of the following tombstones - a fellow shipmate just sent these too me  "OH HOW HE LONGED TO BE A CUCUMBER AGAIN" or how about: "PICKLES HAVE THE LAST LAUGH!" What will people say at your eulogy? Uri. He really liked porn. Uri really enjoyed a good burger. Uri was able to put a good 12 hours on his pillow. Vinny. He was a good killer. Tom. He was a great actor. Farve. He really knew how to throw. What are the people gonna say? Who are you? What have you become? What happens when you see the video of your life? Keep in mind that this is not not not a mussar shmooze. What's done is done. What Hashem gave He gave. The past is the past. And much of it was definetly basically out of our control. But what now? Will our life continue to be one long string of: Comfort Time Irritable Resist Comfort How much will be accomplished in this manner? Our life has to change. We have to live with the bigger picture in mind. G-d created us to enjoy Him. And He is the world. We must get out there and experience Him For how long can we live selfishly and within ourselves? When will start sharing ourselves with the world? The world is waiting for us. The world needs us. Uri has something that the world needs. As do Rage,Mom,Guard,Momo,and all of us. This is what we will be remembered for. Uri.He spent his whole life giving. He wrote songs to pick people up. He smiled at strangers. He cared about people. Uri will not be remembered for not watching porn. Our lives are not about not watching porn. Not to diminish the greatness of restraint, but isn't there so so much more out there? And in us? I know what you are thinking. "Sounds simple,yea? Just live, yea? I've tried that. And I went nuts from all the inner turmoil that I couldn't just live." Maybe we thought too much about the inner turmoil? Maybe we didn't just let go and live? Connect to life. Connect to people. Our security will be in our connection to life. I'm ranting. Uri.He loved to rant. Will we find ourselves by dwelling in our pains and insecurities all day? Or will we find ourselves when we show ourselves? -uri Comments and questions appreciated |
