I would like to hear about the experiences of other guys here regarding watching movies on the plane. Not opinions, experiences.

I am broken between committing not to watch anything period with the potential to break after an hour or two (or 5 minutes) or telling myself that I can watch anything that is okay for kids (especially if I've watched it before and I know that it's okay). The risk here is that once I am watching, I may find it hard to not watch something that is not appropriate.

As far as my wife being there, she is generally okay with the concept of a movies (although I am not exactly sure, we do watch movies together sometimes) but she would die at the sight of a woman in a bikini or a sex scene (all bad movies and most good ones). On past flights, I have watched movies that ended up having sex scenes and the like and she wasn't pleased to say the least. I guess her presence can be somewhat of a shemira.

Either way, I do try not to watch movies anymore, I really haven't seem much since I got married except for with my wife (about 7-8 times total), but the plane is still a struggle.

Please share your experiences here, I really want to hear how you guys did or didn't do it.

Thanks.

Enroute from Eretz Yisrael to the US I had a lot of taiva to see a movie.
I held back for 7 hours. It was very hard because a frum Jew in front of me was watching very explicit stuff (not sure why wasn’t embarrassed) and I fought for those 7 hours not to look at his screen.
Eventually I gave in and almost masterbated on the plane…

Felt horrible and wasn’t the best start to returning home from Yeshiva.

My recent experience (over a year ago): I was on a plane with my wife in the seat next to me. I had a device logged in to the airlines entertainment center. I was flipping through the channels I saw one of the channels had an extremely explicit movie that I knew about and always had a taiva for but never allowed myself to watch in the past. I didn’t stay on that movie but I kept on flipping through the channels deliberately pausing for a few seconds as I passed that specific channel hoping to catch an explicit scene. I was successful. Unfortunately. It caused me to ejaculate right then and there. My wife didn’t notice a thing. That was a really uncomfortable flight.

I'm personally not a big movie fan. I think my fam has Netflix and Amazon prime accounts but apart from one or 2 series on sports, I don't have much of an interest, so I haven't found planes a struggle in the past. (I could waste ages on YouTube however, even on just kosher videos)

I like the time I get on a plane, I have plenty of music that I want to listen to, or podcasts or shiurim. Maybe try look at it as an opportunity to listen to plenty of things you want to hear, as opposed to not watching a movie for X amount of hours. I find its best to come prepared with different things to pass the time

I really respect your 7 hours of fighting.
I flew very recently, and held off for maybe a couple hours. I ended up watching 3 movies back to back, and being mzl after.
The trick is to prepare like a beast. With literally whatever keeps you occupied/entertained(obv thats clean).
sfarim, books, shiurim, political/comedy podcasts, music, nyquil.
obv easier said than done.

Maybe you'll laugh at me but whenever I go on a plane I'm going into a 'Teshuva Mi'Yirah' mode and I am usually very strong. I like to draw and do art on my tablet.
Next flight I would listen to shiurim from here on GYE which I have a huge list of but don't have the time for it, I only joined here less then a month.

Your learning in Eretz Yisrael? How come I didn't know?!

That's exactly my question, maybe for a guy like me it would be better to just watch a movie that at least I know is clean.

I usually watch despicable me and the minions
:pinch: Warning: Spoiler!
Without my wife next to me I wouldn't trust myself to even look at what they have...
Watching at least something FOR ME is better than looking over at the garbage the guy in front of you is watching...
Hope for the best Prepare for the worst

Im currently in Yeshiva in the USA, though might come to Eretz Yisrael for Succos in which case we’ll be b’kesher.
I hear that very shtark. I’m just pointing out that as a 20 year old buchar (2years ago) coming back from Yeshiva I was affected by what others were doing.
Just so that the chevra knows their actions affect others.

Like, on that flight the guy behind me was a Rebbi in. Yeshiva in NY and was learning Gemara and towards the end of the flight I thanked him and said he was mechazeik me not to be nichshal (though was later on).
