I had a good week with Taphsic until yesterday where I watched and read p ....

I have started to keep my phone out of my room at all times and will continue to do so, IYH, at all costs...

Running around the bush with repeated Taphsics is not a recovery tool

Disclaimer: I'm not Moses just a simple guy that cares

The taphsic is a tool. Tools are helpful when used properly and in the right circumstances. If you need more than a taphsic or it doesn't work for you then don't use it (or use something else in addition to it).

Saying that it isn't a tool is quite a drastic statement. Like I wrote above, I have gained from using the taphsic method even if I don't use it now.

#2 CHART: There's guys that do a cumulative 90 day count which is cool but not the 90 day chart and not a gye recovery tool

#3 FILTER: If someone has a good filter, and keeps getting stronger filters because he's determined to break thru them (as I was), then persisting on even better filtering is pointless, and not a recovery tool for him

Its not a recovery tool for him and it's time to turn to the next page in the handbook...

I can't claim to know the inner workings of other people. I have a hard enough time with myself. But two things come to mind when I think of this:

Taphsic works without a doubt. However even for me a non addict I don't understand why Taphsic is put higher on the pedestal than other tools

Eg in the handbook or the website dropdown

Its a tool many guys think must work for the general population and if I tried it once and it didn't work it must be because I didn't do it right. I need to tweak it this way then that way then another way. Guys do that with the filter too.

When in reality it's not the recovery tool that they need, but they keep using it - like a drill bit that's incompatible and we can't repair the Truck - it's not the right tool brother

I'd like to see 'forum' or 'phone conferences' feature before the Taphsic...

Taphsic isn't a recovery tool. It's a stop-acting-out tool. First you have to stop. Then you can work on not starting.

I agree with you that the taphsic method doesn't seem to be helpful enough to be featured so prominently on the site. Maybe the webmaster knows something we don't (HEY GUARD, if you're reading this then we'd love to hear what the deal is).

I was just saying that just because something isn't working for someone doesn't make it not a tool. It may even be that it's a good tool for him and he didn't use it properly yet. I don't know of any way of knowing if a tool is going to work for you other than through trial and error.

I'm not sure what your criteria for a gye tool is but if someone is getting helped from a cumulative count (I don't know of anyone who did) then he should probab;y conttinue using it.

As far as filters, they aren't there to stop us from acting out. They're there because our gedolim say to have them. They also usually serve as a deterrent at least for me. I know a way around my filter that hasn't been fixed even though I've reported it. It still helps me since it's a pain in the neck to exploit it.

thanks for your comments on taphsic, I only did it for a week.
moving on, I had a fall this morning (first time in a couple weeks), even though earlier in the morning i was able to keep my phone away - this time i could not.
I have the gye books in front of me as well as gye chevra on my phone to text. problem is i text them too late most of the time. (there have been a few battles won though, recently).
any help or chizuk is appreciated.

Keep in mind that the successful guys (see "Free Towing" page below), primarily don't use their phones when they feel pulled into the mud. That's a time to protect your phone. They use their phones primarily to live life, and the more you can do that - the more productive your day will be ;-)

I turned my phone's wifi off (a small stuff but hey...)
maybe i should turn it off fully when I am at home, but i might miss a call or text from work.
I have the covenant eyes browser so I have been using the iPhone's search app/news to get around it. any way to uninstall that? i am doing a google search now for it...
