Hey everyone.

The most common "complaints" about being able to use the phone for recovery are as follows:

1) I am afraid of giving out my phone number.
2) I can't afford to call long distance because
    a) I only get free local calling or
    b) I only get free incoming calls
3) I don't have a private phone line I can speak on

Google voice can solve ALL these problems - the table below corresponds to the "complaints" above

1) Google provides a FREE and ANONYMOUS phone #. This number can be forward to ANYWHERE IN THE US and can be forwarded simultaneously to up to 4 numbers.
2) Google allows you to call anywhere in the US for FREE as follows:
    a) If you have free local calling, you can call your google voice # and then use it as a calling card to call anywhere in the US for free
    b) If you only have free incoming calls, you can logon to your google voice account, and then put in the # you wish to reach. Google will then call YOU first, and then call the person you wish to reach. This means you will always be receiving incoming calls
3) If you need a private line, google voice can be forwarded to computer phones. Both sipgate.com and whistlephone.com provide free computer phones that google can forward to. All you need is a microphone and headphones (or a headset - I like this one: www.google.com/products?q=cyber+acoustics+ac-201&aq=1&oq=cyber+acoustics+ac) and you will have a private line to use.

Oh and another thing... recently google unblocked everything except for 100 #'s. I checked and Duvid chaims is still blocked... I'll look into finding a different conference system that they can switch to that will work.

Also, for those who say they can't call in to groups because they can't have their wife or whatever find out... well first of all, there's cellphones. Tell your wife you have a new chavrusa. Go somewhere where you can talk privately (your car?) and thats it.

I know that won't work for some of you - because you don't have enough minutes maybe or something like that... - first of all... an hour a day = 1800 minutes a month. In the states there are many unlimited plans for $30 - $40 a month (imagine that its the cost of your medicine). You could even get a throwaway prepaid unlimited plan just for this - totally anonymous.

Ok - basically what he's saying is they need a private place to talk. Using a cellphone in Israel to call america at 1800 minutes a month = $180... pretty expensive. What can be done is the following:

Cellcom has an unlimited internet plan for 130 NIS month. The iPhone 3g can be bought for around $300 and set up to block anything except for voip and lets say email /chat (for gue purposes of course) (I can set it up for you). Basically you get a unlimited cellular voip line to the states for 130 NIS a month (about $35) when you combine it with Google voice's free calling. That means that after your second month you'll be paying a lot less for phone calls to the states. This can even be used between callers in Israel - if you're both using voip, its free. Or you can just skype to each other over the iphone. Google voice allows free texting to Israel phones, so whenever someone wants to talk to you they can text the iPhone (incoming texts always free in israel), and then you turn on the voip and call them back. (or if you want to keep the israeli phone # anonymous, google has push mail (blackberry type instant email) enabled which will tell you instantly when someone emails or txts ur google voice #).

Basically we can all come up with excuses. But there are ways to save $ if the cost is an issue. And this can all continue to be totally anonymous - they don't need to know your real identity or # at any point. Oh and I think iphone has a voice changer app if ur that paranoid :-)

I have a google voice account, but I'm not sure how I can invite others. I looked through my settings and didn't see any way for me to do that. Let me look again...or you can tell me if you know how.

Yes.... Its there just like in gmail. Maybe you used yours up? Or they haven't given them to you... new account don't get them right away...

I just realized why I wasn't seeing it. I'm using a netbook with a resolution of 1024x600. I switched to 1024x768 (it doesn't fill the whole screen, but you put your mouse at the bottom and it moves down) and there it is on the bottom left!

So did you send the invite?
