I'm a Lubavitcher BT and I want to know if there are any other Lubavitchers in GYE besides myself. Although it's comforting to know that there are other frum Jews fighting the same battles that I am, knowing that there are also other Lubavitchers would give me an added chizuk. Maybe we can talk about how chassidus can be used to combat our addiction?

Hi myk5775,
First of all welcome to the club and i wish you much hatzlocho in your journey. This is place is amazing with alot of special people so use it out!
Secondly im sorry if this sounds harsh but i think it is wrong of you to bring into this website differences between different types of yidin and to stress the difference in such a way that i will give you chizzuk if somone else belongs to your type of people. ... for many reasons. Here are two of them: 1) we all have the same struggle and all want to learn from each other to help each other. Whether that help is coming from mussar or breslover chsidis or chabad chsidis should be irrelevant. 2) I think for many of us tge torah we have learnt hasnt helped at all and we need special help like 12 steps or anything like that so finding things in Chsidis to help you is nice but not the ultimate solution. (Just like if you had a headache you wouldnt only say tehilim you would go to a doctor...
So join the club and feel welcome whether you are litvish, chsidish, sfardi etc etc bc it makes no difference we are all fighting the same war.
Wishing you much hatzlocho!
Ps. I am Lubavitch if that matters to you;)

Hi Changing,
my point wasn't to try to differentiate between yidden,ch"v, but in the same way as we get strength from knowing that other yidden are going through the same thing, I thought knowing that other lubavitchers are going through my struggle would give me a bit of strength. That's why we chose a frum internet addiction website as opposed to a regular internet addiction website. But either way, it's nothing worth splitting hairs over. Your comment definitely helped give me some perspective. However, I do believe that chassidus (and yes, you're right that different schools of thought work for different people) has the tools to be able to help a person change. Chassidus doesn't talk about people who are tzadikim, the "hero" of chabad chassidus is the benoni, someone who might have a raging taava inside, but he's worked on himself to the point that he doesn't let it find expression in his actions, speech, or even in machshava zaras. To me, that sounds like what GYE is trying to do. I don't know, I could be wrong though. Thanks for your help and hatlzacha on your journey. gut shabbos.

I am also a Lubavitcher baal teshuva. That is actually the reason I am here. I did not realize I had a problem until I became interested in Judaism. The local rabbi runs the daycare I went to, the services I go to and is the main support I have received in any matter. His selfless devotion has influenced me in a way that is beyond description. He does not expect honor, riches or glory for his work; the knowledge that he has helped others is his reward. This is a trait praised by the 12 steps. I think that everyone should try to find how the particular teaching their identify with most connects to this problem. That way studying either topic reinforces the other.

Also, I think that it is alright to ask a question like this. If many people said that they were Lubavitcher, then a form of comradery would form in the community as a whole. If many people said that they were not Lubavitcher, then the fact that people we so willing to share would itself be a form of comfort.

Sincerely, some_guy /Elias /Eliyahu
My Rabbi always gives me the same advice. "Be happy. The world is good. Just be happy."
