A non-religious gay man responds to someone’s comments against the Torah Declaration:
I don't think you truly understand the meaning of change and the idea of working on your SSA. You're letting yourself be carried away by what the gay community wants so hard for you to believe. I have seen so many gay men unhappy and get into unsafer sex and ultimately suicide, it’s not even a joke. Most of these men would be considered happy gay men... Although I am not religious, I am Jewish and I choose the healing path. First I worked on my sexual trauma and then I started working in my same-sex attraction, as I truly don't think I can ever be happy within the gay com...unity... I been there, done that, and I’ve been 'out' since age 18... To my knowledge, many or most sexually abused people get into drugs and sex addiction, promiscuity and so many other troubles, including lots of mental health issues... Judaism teaches us that we can repent (do teshuvah) and come back to who we truly are...
I've never seen more respect and devotion to a cause than that of Arthur Goldberg and the other JONAH co-director, Elaine Berk... I still love and respect my gay friends... they are all amazing human beings, three of whom just told me in the last couple of months that they became HIV+ for having unsafe sex... Sorry, I don't need that... The Rabbis are not attacking anyone, they are just stating facts. You should know how many gay men have had sexual abuse in their past, can't you see it is directly linked to same-sex attraction? I've seen it over and over throughout the years, people do leave the gay lifestyle and develop attraction for the opposite sex...
